About

Hello, my name is Avery Worker.

Since I've begun my educational journey I’ve been lucky to have had the opportunity to collaborate on some exciting solo and collaborative projects. I take pride in all that I do and the long-term relationships I’ve fostered. I firmly believe that hard work eventually pays off, and each day brings me closer to reaching my goals.

As a senior in high school, I had no idea what I wanted to do. I mean don't get me wrong I knew I wanted to go to a college of some sort but for what exactly was my issue. So instead I joined the Marine Corps, I know quite a jump from college. But I knew I would be in college someday so why not just join the Marine Corps? I mean the recruiter I talked to seemed like a decent guy, sort of reminded me of a salesperson the way he talked about how I would travel, how to handle dangerous tools, and of course how much women love a man in uniform.

Well, a week into boot camp I instantly regretted it. But I overcame the physical and mental challenges that came with it and I became a Marine in 2016, and I will learn that this was the best decision I have made.
Yes, my recruiter was right on a few things such as traveling because, for the first time, I was able to travel from California to be stationed in North Carolina at Camp Pendleton but man was he wrong about the girl's part.
From there I was trained as a logistics supply and accounting, at the 3043 MOS. "Bullets don't fly without supply, rah."

Being in the Marine Corps helped me reflect on myself. It made me realize that I am a leader, I am someone that people would look up to. I know I'd be a good leader and that carried on as I was "voluntold" I'd be deploying on a MEU. A MEU is Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) is considered America’s 911 Force - forward deployed, ready to respond to a variety of crises from full-scale combat to humanitarian assistance. Here I was further away from family and with limited communication from friends and family and the outside world. It was a whole new experience, I got to be on a Navy Ship named the USS Fort McHenry

(LSD-43). Because of this deployment, I got to see a lot of the world. The countries I got to see were Romania, Dubai, Spain, Lativa, and Germany. It was the best time as I was around fellow Marines that I will always remember for the rest of my life. While on the ship I got to meet some of the greatest leaders who truly inspired me and some who were, so and so but that's okay. I learned from the bad ones too, in terms of what not to do in a leadership position.

From here I became very interested in cyber security, for my job I had to sometimes go to the command bridge to use the internet and do my work. I met a Marine who did cyber security and he talked to me about it all and that's where I got the idea for choosing my career path. I just want to do good in this world and I know being a cop or an FBI agent was not for me, it was too similar to the structure of the military. By studying technology forensics I get to learn skills and knowledge. It's thinking like the bad guys but working for the good.

From a little kid growing up and being raised on the Navajo reservation, most of my life I only knew about stray dogs on the streets, drugs, and alcohol, but that doesn't mean I didn't also see the good in it. Communities coming together to help out one another made us strong and made me who I am. Wondering about the high school sports teams, and the Fridays spent being at the swap meet to grab some food and look at jewelry my family was too poor to buy. Waking up early to grab a breakfast burrito before school for 3 dollars. Trying to translate what the older adults were saying in Navajo. But never have I thought I would be in this position right here right now making this about me, making a portfolio of my skills and projects and the many achievements I have already done in my short life. Statistically, I had everything against me but I hope my story shows that it only takes one person to believe in you to do great things. And that person is yourself.

I hope you enjoyed this read about me and I have attached a few photos from the countries I got to visit.

While going to school full time I was also working full time at a company called Industrial Metal Supply which has supported me as well to be my very best and to my wonderful family whom I'll always cherish. I don't know how I would've done all this without them and my Marine Corps family. If you're reading this, from the bottom of my heart. Thank you. Semper Fi.
